I have 3 interests that would fall within the scope of my current M.A. pursuit.
· Copyright.
· Social Media and how it impacts tech writers.
· Social Media and tech writing, specifically “User-Generated Documentation.”
The first is, surely, far too broad. The second seems right, but, again, the scope is too narrow; and further I do not know how it affects most tech writers as I have a somewhat unique perspective. The third seems just right.
But wait, I can hear, the third seems narrower than the others, but it’s not. You can trusts me on this or you can look around and see who, exactly, is doing most of the tech writing out there. It’s not folks like me, with English degrees and a thesis to write; it’s folks that have skills and can write decently well. A blog post titled “Musings on user-generated documentation” seems to sum it up nicely, and even touches on my copyright interest. (Also, this PDF is another perspective. I don’t like linking to PDFs, but it’s there.)
I need to look at this more, and soon. At this point, I’d rather take the damn comprehensive tests and be done with it, but I think if I do have a focus, then it’ll get easier.
